On 14th Sept'17 Seminar was organised on Digital Parenting for parents of class Nursery to V students. Resource Person were : Ms. Ankita Aurora and Mr. Kaustub Kaushik. The seminar was attended by the Principal, teachers and more than 300 parents. It was an "Eye-Opener" for the participants. The keypoints discussed were as follows:
Digital technology should be integrated into your family culture in a fun, healthy and enriching way.
Limit the use of TV, computers and mobile devices to a maximum of 30 minutes at a time. Ensure the total amount of screen time per day doesn't exceed the age-group recommendations.
Refrain from putting TV and electronic gadgets in your child's bedroom, and put away such devices after use.
Observe 'tech-free' times such as during meals, homework and bedtime. In addition, you can designate 'tech-free' zones for your child such as in the bedroom, dining area and in the car.
Children who don't sleep are more likely to be obese, have attention problems, show irritability, and even have aggressive outbursts and temper tantrums.
Monitor access by using the device together with your child. Take this opportunity to communicate, interact and share family values.
Computer games should only be allowed after children have taken care of other responsibilities. For example, parents are strongly advised to set a rule that video games can only be played after homework has been completed (and completed with effort).
Be involved with your kids in activities such as martial arts, music, creative writing, crafts, painting or storytelling.
Substitute gaming time with family time; this can include cooking together, playing board games, gardening, listening to music or taking a family walk.
Ask your child about the sort of images they receive and send and find out if they use web cams!
It is not enough for kids to turn off their phone or tablet - these devices should go to bed in another room.
There is enough space in your life for both your child and your phone, but maybe not at the same time.
If you have time to watch a video with your child, why not turn it off and play with your child or read a story to him/her.
Parents should practice observing 20 to 30 minute screen-free periods for themselves.
Do not leave the TV on when no one is watching (i.e., background TV). It detracts from human interaction and leads to inappropriate exposures.
Technological devices should not be the last thing you touch before bed and the first thing you think about when you wake up.
